At 30, Van Doninck became a professor at the University of Namur, where she combined teaching with fundamental research in evolutionary biology. Her groundbreaking research focuses on microscopic species that will soon be sent to space as part of a European Space Agency project.

In 2017, Van Doninck was the first and only woman in Belgium to receive a prestigious grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Additionally, ranks among Charlie's Top 25 Influential Belgians in the World. Since 2020, Van Doninck has been a professor at the ULB, where she will start a new research group in molecular biology and evolution.
