His research concentrates on the mechanisms and control methods of the cell cycle in plants. In the field of plant science, Inzé is one of the most referenced authors.

For eight years, he was research director at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA). Since 2008, he is also a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts. Together with plant genetics pioneer Marc Van Montagu, Inzé founded biotech company CropDesign, now part of BASF Plant Science.
