His ground breaking work on the role of presenilin in Alzheimer's disease has yielded him the Brain Price, the most prestigious award in the field of neuroscience. He published four hundred publications and  twenty patents, started two spin-offs and is still leading a highly international, diverse and dynamic research team at the KU Leuven Laboratory for Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases.
